Blocked Toilets
A blocked toilet needs clearing before it overflows. We lift the pan or work through the S-bend to shift paper, wipes and whatever else is jamming the bowl.
Big street trees around New Farm push fine roots into old earthenware pipes, so blocked drains hit toilets, sewers, stormwater and sinks; call (07) 3524 0742 today.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill
Six drain services cover the peninsula, from a single slow sink to a collapsed sewer under the road, all listed on the drain services page:

A blocked toilet needs clearing before it overflows. We lift the pan or work through the S-bend to shift paper, wipes and whatever else is jamming the bowl.

When the sewer line blocks, every drain in the house backs up at once. We clear the shared line between your boundary and the Urban Utilities main.

Stormwater drains carry roof and paved run-off down toward the river. We clear the stormwater line so the yard and garage empty after rain instead of ponding.

Sinks, showers, laundry tubs and floor wastes all slow down eventually. Drain cleaning with the electric eel or jet blaster strips grease, hair and sludge so water runs freely again.

Before anyone digs up a garden, find out what is actually down there. A CCTV drain inspection shows the crack, the root mass or the collapse, and where it sits.

When the pipe itself is cracked or collapsed, cleaning will not hold for long. Drain repairs cover dig-and-replace and relining, so you choose the fix that suits the site.

New Farm Same Day Blocked Drains is the blocked drain service for New Farm, Teneriffe and Hawthorne. We clear blocked toilets, sewers, stormwater drains and fixture drains, and repair the pipes underneath them.
At the last census, 74.5 per cent of local dwellings were flats or apartments, many in inter-war walk-up blocks with shared old laterals. Being locally owned and operated, we know that housing stock and what it does to its drains.

The peninsula's drains fail for reasons the local record spells out plainly, and most trace back to the age of the pipes and the size of the trees:
On the leafy side of Brunswick Street the verges carry big old trees, and fine roots push into every open joint of the earthenware drains below, turning a quiet line slow overnight.
Where cracked earthenware runs beneath the older flat blocks, wipes and paper snag at each offset, and one stoppage in a shared lateral puts every floor out together.
The kitchens along Brunswick Street and around Merthyr Village drain into older laterals under the shop rows, where fat settles and sets between services.
Council put drains through parts of the peninsula in the late 1880s and sewers by the mid-1930s, so the house drains under the surviving Queenslanders and Federation homes are closing on a hundred years old.
Drain backing up right now? Three quick checks:

Drains rarely die without warning; they talk first:

No two drain jobs cost the same, and a handful of factors do most of the moving:
a gully next to the side path costs less to reach than a pipe under a concreted courtyard or a heritage verandah.
a shallow earthenware line is one job; a deep clay or cast-iron run under the road is another.
grease and paper clear quickly, while root masses and collapsed sections take longer and can point toward a repair.
to settle the cause and location before anyone commits to a fix.
One job we will point you elsewhere on: a blockage in the Urban Utilities sewer main itself belongs to the water authority, not to you or to us. We will tell you straight if that is what the symptoms say.

Stormwater here is a geography problem as much as a plumbing one, and the local record shows exactly why:
Run-off from the ridge streets heads for the river-edge blocks, where the 1909 stormwater scheme finished what began in the late 1880s, and those lines now take far more paved run-off than their builders allowed for.
Council maps put Welsby Street, Alford Street, parts of Sydney Street and Lamington Street and the river end of Brunswick Street under water in the 1974, 2011 and 2022 river floods, and flood silt settles in the low gullies afterwards.
Most of the rain falls from November to March, and with water on three sides of the peninsula the shaded verges dry slowly, so stormwater lines seldom get a proper rest between events.
Our run stretches beyond the peninsula. We also look after Teneriffe, Hawthorne, Norman Park, East Brisbane and Kangaroo Point, each with its own page of local detail.
For anything beyond drains, our contact page runs through what helps to have ready before you ring.
Every drain job follows the same four steps, from start to finish, down to the last bucket of test water:

On (07) 3524 0742, run through which fixtures are slow, gurgling or overflowing, so the plumber on the way knows where to start.

We find the cause, explain the fix and give you a fixed upfront price, and the work only starts once you agree to it.

The plumber clears the blockage, then runs water through the affected fixtures to check it is holding, so you see the drain working before anything else happens.
We test the drain with running water until it flows freely and show you the result before leaving the job.
$0 call-out fees, available 24/7, and same-day where we can.

If the drain is playing up on a Thursday, you want a plumber who knows the peninsula, not someone reading from a script.
We're available 24/7 across New Farm and fit you in fast, with same-day where we can.

Zero call-out fees, flat-rate pricing and no surcharge for nights, weekends or public holidays, with fix now, pay later on offer.
A lifetime labour warranty covers the work, the Fix-It-or-It's-Free guarantee covers the result, and if we're late, $100 comes off your bill. T&Cs apply.
Licensed and insured with QBCC No: 15024607, every job is done by a licensed plumber, and we're proud MPAQ members.
Mostly access, the depth and material of the line, what caused the stoppage, and whether it is worth sending a camera through first. The fixed price is agreed before anyone starts.
Usually, yes. Call in the morning and we can generally have a plumber at your drain before the day is out. We say usually because an honest plumber never promises a slot before seeing the queue.
Your drains run to the junction with the Urban Utilities sewer main. Your side of that point is yours to keep clear, and the authority looks after its own main.
Wipes, paper towel, cotton buds, cooking fat and anything sold as flushable are the repeat offenders. Where most homes share one lateral, a single bad flush can slow the whole block.
Clear the line first, then send a camera through. The picture tells us whether it was roots, a cracked earthenware joint or a sagged section, and shows the exact spot to fix.
Ring (07) 3524 0742, say which drains are playing up and what they are doing. The price is agreed before anyone starts, and you can pay by card or EFTPOS on the day.
